Profile: Social Areas and Projects
The business unit Social Areas and Projects has been established in 1997 and strives to support children, young people, women and men in various social crisis situations and to help them to get their lives working. In our attempt to solve social issues and problems we are searching for tailor-made assistance in cooperation with all persons concerned by the specific problems.
In the sectors of psychiatry, drug addiction and addiction prevention we are initiating, planning and managing projects which offer concrete help and support. Guidelines for our work are the holistic approach, the consideration of the individual situation and living conditions of persons concerned, sustainability, the promotion of self-determination and the reliability of established relationships. We consider the own resources people have who seek advice and help, and we call for their active participation. The projects are working in determined social areas in several neighbourhoods in Berlin and thanks to the precisely adjusted assistance geared to the individual situation they are committed to provide services in their specific area. A special priority is given to chronically addicted persons.
We are providing young people with the necessary assistance thanks to the large variety of our projects in practice. These projects start where general potentials for crisis in society arise, for instance in connection with early experiences made with crime and violence, with youth unemployment, deficits in education and / or work with migrants and refugees, and we help them tackling their individual problems resulting from their specific socialisation and development. Innovative and experimental pedagogical concepts enable us to find solutions likely to consolidate young people in their social environment and to discover new potentials for action in view of the successful handling of their own lives.
In addition to that, forms and projects exist for the qualification of the work in networks and structures (networking, committee work, multiplicator work). This includes the work at the interface youth / police, the networking of local initiatives and projects for a free and open civil society and the coordination of procedures to foster the participation of children and young people.
